Photo of the Day, Day 61 - "The Cross of Love"

Sunday, September 1, 2013

Today, I decided to take a picture of a cross given to my husband and me as a wedding gift.  I love this cross.  I have it hanging in our room above some wedding pictures.  Imprinted on this cross is 1st Corinthians 13:4-8, the love verses from The Bible.

I walked in my sons' room and this is what I saw:

My boys' love to play in the curtains.  I couldn't get a very good one of both their shadows, and Luc was done quicker then I could press the shutter button on the camera.  Owen, however, put on a show for me. :)

Who else has a wall like this in their house?  As I've said before, this is my boys' "Art Wall."  Every week it gets filled with new things they've done in Preschool.  This week they learned about circles, the color red, and STOP signs.  They also had their school pictures taken, I believe their teacher did practice pictures with them before having the real school picture done. :)  I love seeing what my boys' bring home day after day.  I get a little sad when they don't bring anything home.  I'm so proud of my sweet boys and the work they're doing in school.

Photo of the Day, Day 58 - "Ike the Spider"

No, I do not normally give spiders names.  However, while I was editing this picture, one of my sons was saying something to me that I could not understand.  I was showing him the spider and thought he was saying, "Ike. Ike. Ike."  I asked him if the spider's name was Ike and he said, "Nope. Iank"  I then asked him if he was trying to say "Bike." "Nope. Ank."  It ended up that he was trying to say "Bank."  I don't know why, but he was trying to talk about the bank. Haha  Well, I liked the name Ike and since I don't know what kind of spider this is, it worked for naming the photo.  If anyone knows what kind of spider this is, please tell me. :)

This time of year, it has come to our attention (in our new house), we end up getting a lot of spider webs outside.  I have seriously never noticed this many spider webs in any place we lived before.  There's always a down side and an up side to spider webs.
  • Down side: if there are spider webs, there are spiders.  If there are spider webs, I will walk through them.
  • Up side: if there are spider webs, they will catch flying insect. :)  I'm not sure which I do not like more: flying insects or spiders (probably flying insects, to tell you the truth).  Now, if there was a flying spider, that would definitely take the cake.

As I looked out our back door, while eating breakfast, I noticed this web with a spider on it stretched across the steps leading down to our deck.  I quickly jumped up and ran to grab my camera and spray bottle of water and I was out the door.  The web was in pretty bad shape, I guess she had a good night of catching insects.  I sprayed some water on it and as I did Ike came to life.  She quickly started taking the web down.  I took a little video, but as I was taking the video she became fairly still, of course.  So, I didn't get any good video of her actually taking it down.  However, I got two GREAT pictures of her.  It was REALLY hard to choose between the two, but I chose this one.  I just love this shot, it really makes me think of spiders in a whole new light.  I've always thought spiders were interesting, but never wanted to get up close to them.  Since having twin boys, all that has changed.  I don't want my boys to be scared of things, but aware of things that could harm them.  This requires me to get a little too close for comfort to point things out to them.  Therefore, I can't jump and scream every time I see a spider or a wasp or bee gets to close.  I have to keep calm.  Now, roaches are a WHOLE different story.  I demand the right to jump and scream if I see one. ;)

I hope you enjoy this picture because I'm very proud of it.

By the way, I dedicate this picture to my loving husband and lovely sister, who both HATE spiders. ;) Ha.
